On October 20, 2013, Curtis Edmonds, a 37-year-old resident of Pittsburgh, was fatally shot in a home invasion incident in the Brighton Heights neighborhood. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when Edmonds forced his way into his ex-girlfriend's home on Fleming Avenue, allegedly carrying a firearm. Inside the home, a confrontation broke out between Edmonds and the woman's current boyfriend, who also had a weapon.
