On November 26, 2016, Niles Young, a 22-year-old, was fatally shot in Pittsburgh's East Hills neighborhood. Young was working on a car in a parking lot near Maplewood Apartments when assailants emerged from a wooded area and began firing indiscriminately, shooting at least 15 rounds. During the attack, three others were injured: a 29-year-old woman, an 11-year-old girl, and an 8-year-old boy who was struck by shattered glass.
