In the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood of Philadelphia, a 42-year-old Black woman named Kathryn Berry was the victim of a fatal shooting on the evening of September 27, 2014. Known affectionately as 'Kat' to her friends and family, she was a devoted mother of four and a loving grandmother. Berry was walking her dog near Fairmount Park at approximately 8:30 p.m.
when the tragic incident occurred on the 3200 block of Morse Street.
An unidentified assailant shot Berry multiple times, striking her in the head and leg. Philadelphia Police officers responded to the scene and rushed her to Hahnemann University Hospital in extremely critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Kathryn Berry succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on September 28, 2014. Her death was ruled a homicide by the Philadelphia Police Department.
The investigation into Kathryn Berry's murder remains open, and as of now, no arrests have been made. Authorities have released a limited description of a person of interest, described only as a heavy-set man. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek information from the public to bring resolution to this unsolved case.
