In the early morning hours of a Sunday in late November 2014, the life of 35-year-old Keyot Marks came to a violent end in Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion neighborhood. It was just after 2:30 a.m. on November 30th when police responded to calls on Edgely Street near 29th. There, they discovered Marks, a male resident of Mayfair, who had been shot in the head.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene pronounced him dead.
At the time of his death, investigators had not identified any suspects or determined a motive for the shooting. The case, as of public records, remains an unsolved homicide. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to list the case as open, with no arrests having been made in the years following the incident.
Marks himself had a history with the criminal justice system. Court records show that in 2003, he was convicted of voluntary manslaughter for a killing that occurred in July 2001. He was sentenced to seven to 14 years in prison for that crime. He had been granted parole in February 2009 and again in September 2012 after a parole violation in 2011. Authorities at the time of his death could not comment on whether his past conviction had any connection to his own murder.
