Anthony Celious, a 32-year-old Black male from Philadelphia, was killed on August 17, 2015, after gunfire erupted outside a residence on the 200 block of West Nedro Avenue in the city’s Olney section. He lived on that same block, and the shooting unfolded close to home, on the front steps where he and others had been gathered.
Police said Anthony was sitting outside with a woman and at least one other man when an unidentified male approached and opened fire.
Anthony was struck multiple times. A 22-year-old woman was also wounded, suffering a gunshot injury to her foot. Officers who arrived at the scene found Anthony badly injured on the steps, placed him in a patrol vehicle, and rushed him to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he died that night.
The shooting came during a violent stretch on that same block. Local reporting described the neighborhood as being on edge after multiple people were shot in the area over a two-day period. Anthony’s killing was one of the incidents that deepened fear among residents, especially because the attack appeared sudden: a gunman walked up to people sitting outside and sprayed gunfire before disappearing.
No public source reviewed identified an arrest, named suspect, charges, trial, or conviction in Anthony Celious’s death. Philadelphia Police have continued to list the case as unsolved and have asked for the public’s help, indicating that detectives were still seeking information that could identify the shooter and bring the case to a resolution.
