In the summer of 2017, the life of 25-year-old Jordan Daniel Wright was tragically cut short in a violent encounter that also claimed the lives of two other young men in Indianapolis. On the evening of Sunday, July 16, police were called to the Somerset Lakes Apartments where they discovered a grim scene. Inside one of the units, Jordan Wright, along with Dominique Miller, 25, and 19-year-old Justin Crowder, were found unresponsive, all suffering from gunshot wounds.
Paramedics pronounced all three men dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly determined that the incident was not a random act of violence, stating they were '100-percent sure this specific apartment and these individuals were targeted.' The motive for the brutal slayings was believed to be a robbery that escalated into a triple homicide. The initial investigation revealed that other people were present in the apartment when the shooting occurred but were unharmed. Witnesses reported seeing several individuals fleeing the scene in a vehicle shortly after the gunshots rang out.
The investigation into the deaths of Jordan Wright, Dominique Miller, and Justin Crowder led to the arrests of multiple suspects. Among them were Troy Ward and Martell Williams, who, after a six-day trial, were convicted on multiple counts, including murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. Their sentencing was scheduled for November of the same year. In a significant development, three other individuals charged in connection with the case entered into plea agreements, cooperating with the police and testifying during the trial of Ward and Williams.
In a separate but related legal proceeding, a 15-year-old male was also charged with murder and robbery for his involvement in the triple homicide. Prosecutors sought to have the teenager tried as an adult. This series of arrests and convictions brought a measure of justice to the families of the victims, piecing together the events that led to the untimely and violent deaths of the three young men.
