On a Tuesday night in late December of 2016, Garfield Adams, a 37-year-old man, was found shot and unresponsive on the front porch of his Philadelphia home. The discovery was made shortly after 10 p.m. on December 27th in the 2300 block of W. Atlantic Street in the city's Tioga neighborhood. Adams had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head, chest, and arms and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Investigators at the scene found evidence of a violent struggle inside the
residence. The basement, which Adams used as his bedroom, was in disarray with overturned furniture. Police recovered six spent shell casings, five of which were located in the basement, and another was found outside the house. This suggested that the confrontation and shooting had initiated within his living quarters and may have spilled outside.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, law enforcement officials interviewed several individuals who were inside the house at the time of the shooting. However, despite these interviews, authorities did not publicly release a motive for the killing or a description of any potential suspects.
