In a gravel parking area off of Northeast Marine Drive in Portland, Oregon, the life of Roystrom Roy Evalt, a 41-year-old Caucasian male, came to a violent end in November of 1985. On the 13th of that month, police were called to the 10,000 block to investigate a report of a possible deceased person in a parked vehicle. There, they discovered Mr. Evalt's body inside his 1969 brown Chevrolet Stepvan. An autopsy would later reveal that he had died from apparent stab wounds.
Investigators determined that the murder likely occurred sometime between Tuesday, November 12, and Wednesday, November 13. Mr. Evalt was known to be a semi-transient individual who had converted his van into a living space. Those who knew him described him as a very trusting and somewhat naïve person. His van had been a familiar sight in the same location for weeks, and by some accounts, even months leading up to the discovery of his body.
