Leoned Joseph Santiago, a 49-year-old sailor and civilian employee of the U.S. Navy, was found murdered on September 7, 1988, beneath the Hawthorne Bridge in Portland, Oregon. His decomposed body was discovered by a passerby, and an autopsy revealed he had been severely beaten. Santiago was last seen alive on August 16, 1988, reportedly carrying a large sum of cash, which was missing when his body was found.
