On March 2, 2000, Henry Jay Johnson, a 21-year-old man from Portland, Oregon, was shot and killed in the area of NE Rodney Avenue and NE Failing Street. The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m., and when police arrived at the scene, they found Johnson already deceased from a gunshot wound. According to witnesses, an African-American male in his twenties was seen fleeing the scene westbound toward Unthank Park.
