In the predawn hours of August 2, 2014, Cameron Polk, a 21-year-old Black male, was at a friend’s residence in northwest Oklahoma City, immersed in his passion for music. An aspiring rap artist, he was inside the house recording when a disturbance outside on NW 21st Terrace drew his attention. He went to the front door to see what was happening. In that moment, his life was cut tragically short when he was shot in the head.
Oklahoma City Police responded to the scene around 3:30 a.m.
to find the young man deceased. Family members, including his aunt and fiancée, were left reeling from the sudden and violent loss. They described a man who loved his family and friends and was dedicated to his musical aspirations. He was a father to one son, Cam'Arion, and had attended Oklahoma City Public Schools. He had accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led police to identify a suspect. An arrest warrant for first-degree murder and burglary was issued for Christopher Stubbs. A few days after the fatal shooting, Stubbs turned himself in to the authorities. As the legal process began, Polk's grieving family pleaded with the public for any witnesses to come forward with information that could help bring clarity and justice to the senseless act that ended a young life.
