In the spring of 2016, a burst of gunfire shattered the morning calm outside a market in Oklahoma City, leaving a young man clinging to life. Angelo Lamont Roberson, a 26-year-old male, was discovered in his vehicle just before 10 a.m. on May 22, 2016, outside the Good Time Market located in the 4500 block of S. Sunnylane Road. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Roberson succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The Oklahoma City Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into what was the city's 26th homicide of the year. Investigators reported that Roberson was sitting in his car when another vehicle pulled up behind him. At least two individuals exited the second vehicle and unleashed a fatal volley of shots at Roberson before fleeing the scene. The brazen nature of the attack in broad daylight spurred an intensive search for those responsible.
Within days, the investigation led to the apprehension of two teenage suspects. On May 25, 2016, the Oklahoma City Police Gangs Unit arrested 18-year-old Daequan Gay and 16-year-old Tanish Love in connection with the fatal shooting. Both were subsequently charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail. Authorities believed Gay and Love were the individuals who approached Roberson's car and fired the shots that ended his life. While the arrests brought a swift development in the case, the motive behind the shooting was not immediately released to the public.
