Walter Coles was fatally shot on May 22, 1989, in Dayton, Ohio. The homicide occurred shortly after midnight, when neighbors reported hearing gunshots on Kinnard Avenue. They observed a car idling in front of 137 Kinnard Ave and a person running away between houses. Upon closer inspection, Walter Coles, aged 20, was found in the driver's seat of his vehicle with three gunshot wounds to his head.
