On July 16, 2024, at approximately 3:14 a.m., Dayton police responded to reports of gunfire near South Conover and West Fifth Streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered 37-year-old John Idell Favors lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite immediate first aid efforts, Favors was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly thereafter, a 33-year-old man arrived at a local hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries, believed to be connected to the same incident.
