Albert Rodriguez, a security guard for more than eight years never carried a weapon, usually just a flashlight - not enough to defend himself during a brutal beating at a Central Fresno apartment complex.

The unarmed guard was attacked Thursday night while patrolling Summerset Village- where he worked and lived.

Apartment resident, Jose Viscara says he was walking through the complex when he came across the bloodied body.
