Tossaphol Srichonpaisarn was 28 years old when he was found dead on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at his home in downtown Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner, he died after sustaining blunt force trauma at 1111 South Grand Avenue. His death was ruled a homicide, and it is listed as a Los Angeles Police Department case handled by the department's Central Division.

The Los Angeles Times Homicide Report, drawing on coroner's records, gave a short account of his last night. Srichonpaisarn "had been out drinking with his friends the night before he was found dead at his home," the Times reported. "His friends had brought him home but called authorities when they could not reach him the next morning." The report added that "an empty box of an over-the-counter medication was found near his bed." It described him as an Asian man of 28 and said that "coroner's officials listed his death as a homicide."

Those details leave many questions open. The report did not say how or when he suffered the blunt force injuries listed as the cause of death, whether they happened while he was out that night, on the way home or inside his residence, or what role, if any, the medication played. It did not say whether his friends were questioned, whether anyone else was in the home that night, or whether investigators ever identified a suspect. The fact that the coroner ruled the death a homicide, rather than an accident, suggests that investigators believed another person caused his injuries, but no public account explains why.

Beyond his name, his age and the place where he died, almost nothing about Tossaphol Srichonpaisarn has been made public. No obituary, memorial page or family fundraiser could be found for this story, and no other news outlet appears to have reported on the death. His name is rare, and searches for it turned up nothing beyond the Homicide Report entry.

The address on South Grand Avenue lies in the southern part of downtown Los Angeles, a district of apartment and condominium towers, older commercial buildings, parking lots and restaurants. The area includes the L.A. Live entertainment complex and the Los Angeles Convention Center, and in 2008 it was in the middle of a building boom that brought thousands of new residents, many of them young professionals, into new high-rise housing. Bars and restaurants nearby drew crowds late into the night.

Homicides in Los Angeles fell steeply in the late 2000s and early 2010s, yet many killings from those years were never solved. The death of a 28-year-old man after a night out with friends was recorded in the Homicide Report in a single paragraph and was not followed by any further reporting.

No arrest, criminal charge or court case connected to the death of Tossaphol Srichonpaisarn could be found in news archives or public records. More than 17 years later, there is no public sign that anyone has been held responsible. The friends who brought him home that night, anyone who was out with him on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, and anyone who lived near 1111 South Grand Avenue at the time may hold information that could help detectives understand what happened. Even a small detail, such as a name overheard, a vehicle seen nearby or a conversation remembered, can help detectives move a case forward. Anyone with information can call the Los Angeles Police Department at 877-527-3247 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
