Xi Yong Huang, an 82-year-old Asian woman, was found dead inside her Monterey Park home on April 29, 2011. Deputies discovered her on the bathroom floor of a residence in the 300 block of North Huntington Avenue; she was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:25 p.m. Preliminary coroner information and later records indicated blunt-force trauma to the back of her head and evidence of asphyxia with ligature marks. The coroner ultimately ruled her death a homicide by asphyxia due to strangulation.

Huang was identified in coroner records as an elderly resident of the Monterey Park neighborhood. Local news reports said the death occurred during what authorities described as a home burglary, and deputies asked area pawn shops to be on the lookout for stolen items connected to the incident. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau handled the investigation and solicited public assistance in the days following her death.

Investigators released limited details publicly; initial reports noted that additional lab tests were pending in the weeks after the discovery. Media coverage and the coroner's subsequent ruling confirmed the manner and cause of death but did not report any arrests, charges, or public identification of a suspect in connection with Huang's homicide. The case remains open with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau, which asked anyone with information to contact detectives at 890-5500 or to call Crime Stoppers at 222-8477.
