On the late summer evening of August 29, 2026, the life of 28-year-old Junior Manuel Sosa Fernández was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire on a street in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood. At approximately 9:23 p.m., the sound of shots fired in the area of 306 Warren Street prompted a response from officers of the Boston Police Department. Upon their arrival, they discovered Sosa Fernández suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led authorities to a person of interest. Responding officers were provided with a description of a vehicle believed to be connected to the homicide. A short time later, police located a parked car matching the description on Martin Luther King Boulevard. As they initiated a traffic stop and approached the vehicle, they observed ballistic evidence inside. The driver of the car, identified as 23-year-old Jarrid Campbell of Randolph, was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search of his person revealed a Glock 43X 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number.
In the days following the incident, Jarrid Campbell was charged with the murder of Junior Manuel Sosa Fernández. In addition to the murder charge, he faced counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, and possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card. At his arraignment in Roxbury District Court, Campbell pleaded not guilty to all charges. A judge ordered him to be held without bail pending further legal proceedings. The case is ongoing, with the next court hearing scheduled for September 29, 2026, as the community awaits answers and the judicial process continues to unfold.
