In the quiet town of Colquitt, Georgia, the night of August 30, 2026, was shattered by the sound of gunfire at a local Circle K gas station, forever altering the lives of several families. Qutavious Ofton, a 21-year-old man from the nearby city of Blakely, was fatally wounded in the encounter. The incident unfolded in the parking lot where two groups of individuals in separate vehicles had arranged to meet. For reasons that remain unclear, the meeting escalated into violence, and multiple shots were fired. Struck by the gunfire, Ofton managed to stumble into the convenience store before collapsing. Despite the immediate response of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The tranquility of the small Southern town was replaced by the flashing lights of law enforcement and the palpable grief of a community stunned by the sudden loss of a young life.

The investigation into the death of Qutavious Ofton was swift, led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation at the request of the Colquitt Police Department. The initial chaos of the scene soon gave way to a determined pursuit of those responsible. A Georgia State Patrol trooper, who was near the Circle K and heard the gunshots, spotted a vehicle fleeing the scene. A brief chase ensued, ending when the suspects' car crashed. Two of the occupants, 18-year-old Jakevious Lashawn Nunnally of Blakely and 16-year-old Shamerion Allen of Fort Gaines, were apprehended at the site of the crash. The third suspect, 19-year-old Koti Amaad Dunn Jr. of Cuthbert, initially escaped on foot but was later found to have sustained a gunshot wound during the incident. He was taken to a regional hospital for treatment before being formally taken into custody.

In the days following the shooting, the three teenagers were charged in connection with the death of Qutavious Ofton. Koti Amaad Dunn Jr. and Jakevious Lashawn Nunnally faced charges of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Shamerion Allen was charged with one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. As the legal process began, Nunnally and Allen were booked into the Miller County Jail, with Dunn expected to join them upon his release from the hospital. The body of Qutavious Ofton was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy as the case was prepared for prosecution by the Pataula Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office. While the motive for the fatal meeting and the specifics of the altercation remained under investigation, the community was left to mourn and await the course of justice. The case against the three suspects was set to move through the court system, with the ultimate outcome of any trials, convictions, or sentencing yet to be determined.
