A bright soul who brought joy and laughter to everyone around her, 21-year-old Dalaysia Nire Brewton's life was tragically cut short on the afternoon of September 1, 2026. A graduate of McKinley Senior High School, she was a doting mother to her 10-month-old son and a beloved daughter, sister, and friend. Her friendly spirit and contagious smile left a lasting impact on those she worked with at a local McDonald's. She had a passion for the art of tattooing, often designing tattoos for her family and friends.

On that Tuesday afternoon, a routine day at a Canton, Ohio, residence on 11th Street NE turned into the scene of a police investigation. At approximately 2:35 p.m., emergency crews responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting. A mechanic who was working nearby told investigators he heard a single loud "pop" and went to check on the home. Inside, he discovered Dalaysia on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to her head. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

In the immediate aftermath, police took 18-year-old Javon M. Ogden into custody in the vicinity of the home. He was subsequently charged with reckless homicide and tampering with evidence, both of which are third-degree felonies. The witness who found Dalaysia recounted to the 911 dispatcher what Ogden allegedly told him in the moments after the shot was fired: "Bro, my gun fell". The tampering with evidence charge stemmed from allegations that Ogden moved the gun after the incident. Ogden was booked into the Stark County jail. During his arraignment in Canton Municipal Court, his bond was set at $500,000. The case, classified as a homicide by the Canton Police Department, remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the events that led to the untimely death of Dalaysia Brewton.
