In the early morning hours of September 7, 2026, the life of 31-year-old Madison Coldiron, a Caucasian female, was tragically cut short on a sidewalk in Long Beach, California. At approximately 5:19 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1900 block of Long Beach Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered Coldiron with a gunshot wound. First responders rendered medical aid until she was transported to a local hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner's office later confirmed that her death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the chest. At the time of the incident, it is believed that Coldiron was experiencing homelessness.
The investigation into Madison Coldiron's death led Long Beach Police Department homicide detectives to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. On September 22, 2026, just over two weeks after the incident, 46-year-old Long Beach resident Cedric Frank Barnes was arrested by special investigations division detectives in the 600 block of Sunrise Boulevard. Barnes was subsequently booked on suspicion of murder, and his bail was set at $2 million.
