In the summer of 2026, the life of 19-year-old Jordan A. Horton was tragically cut short in Canton, Ohio. On the morning of July 14th, police were dispatched to the 900 block of Alan Page Drive SE following a 911 call. There, in the parking lot of an apartment complex, they discovered Jordan's body near a vehicle. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his lower back.
The initial investigation suggested the shooting may have occurred late the previous night or in the early hours of that Tuesday morning. Jordan was remembered by his family as a young man with a contagious smile and a kind heart, who brought joy and laughter to those around him. His sudden and violent death left his loved ones and the community in profound grief.
The Canton Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the homicide, and within a short time, they identified two suspects. Arrest warrants were issued for 25-year-old Jason Singletary and 16-year-old Sahveon Monroe, both residents of Canton. The day after the discovery of Jordan's body, on July 15th, Jason Singletary turned himself in to investigators. He was subsequently charged with complicity to commit murder, felonious assault, and discharging a firearm near prohibited premises. The search for the teenage suspect, however, continued, with law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals' Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, actively pursuing leads to his whereabouts.
The manhunt for Sahveon Monroe came to a dramatic end on July 20th in Cleveland. Task force members tracked him to a residence on Hopkins Avenue. When they attempted to make the arrest, Monroe barricaded himself in the basement of the home, resulting in a standoff. In an effort to force him out, officers deployed OC spray and pepper balls into the house. The tactic was successful, and Monroe was taken into custody without further incident. He was charged with murder, felonious assault, and discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises. While the swift arrests of both suspects brought a sense of progress in the case, the full scope of the events leading to Jordan's death and the subsequent legal proceedings for the two individuals charged in connection with his killing remained to be seen as the judicial process began.
