Cory Charles Gillett, a 49-year-old man, was fatally shot in Carlsbad, New Mexico, during the early morning hours of July 24, 2026. Police were sent to the Missouri Street area at about 5:00 a.m. after receiving a report that someone had been shot. Officers located Gillett, a Carlsbad resident, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was still alive when emergency responders reached him and was transported to Carlsbad Medical Center, but he later died from his injuries.
