On the evening of July 25, 2026, a minor traffic collision in Columbine, Colorado, escalated into a fatal road rage incident that claimed the life of 23-year-old Andrew Luke Bott. The tragic chain of events began around 10:30 p.m. when a Ford F-150 in which Bott was a passenger was involved in a collision with a white BMW X5 on southbound Santa Fe Drive. Following the initial accident, the driver of the F-150 left the scene. This action prompted the driver of the BMW, 25-year-old Steven Cole Simpson, accompanied by his 26-year-old wife, Corryn Simpson, to give chase.

As the pursuit continued, Corryn Simpson placed a 911 call to report the hit-and-run. Despite being instructed by the dispatcher to stop following the truck, the Simpsons allegedly continued the chase, which wound through the Grant Ranch neighborhood. During the recorded 911 call, Steven Simpson was reportedly heard making a threatening statement just moments before the dispatcher heard two gunshots. Prosecutors allege that Steven Simpson fired multiple rounds into the Ford F-150, one of which struck Andrew Luke Bott in the head. The driver of the pickup truck then made his own frantic 911 call, reporting that his passenger had been shot before the call was disconnected. He drove to the parking lot of Columbine High School, where Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies arrived and administered emergency aid to Bott before he was rushed to Littleton Adventist Hospital. Andrew Luke Bott succumbed to his injuries and passed away the following day, on July 26, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Investigators from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Littleton Police Department, pieced together the events of that night using a combination of witness statements, the 911 recordings, and surveillance footage from Flock cameras. The camera footage was crucial in contradicting the Simpsons' initial statements to police, in which they claimed to have ceased their pursuit after being told to do so by the 911 dispatcher. A search of the Simpsons' residence in Highlands Ranch uncovered three 9mm handguns, with ammunition reportedly consistent with the shell casings found at the scene of the shooting. On July 29, 2026, Steven Cole Simpson and Corryn Simpson were arrested in connection with Andrew Bott's death. Steven Simpson was charged with first-degree murder after deliberation and attempted first-degree murder after deliberation. His wife, Corryn Simpson, was charged as an accessory to first-degree murder. As of early August 2026, the couple was scheduled for a court appearance in September. This case provides a stark overview of how a seemingly minor traffic incident can rapidly devolve into a fatal act of violence, leading to a comprehensive police investigation and serious criminal charges against the alleged perpetrators.
