In the late afternoon of July 25, 2026, a verbal altercation at a bus stop in southwest Houston took a fatal turn, ending the life of 51-year-old Amond Morrison. Houston Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene at 13200 Fondren Road around 5:40 p.m. following a report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, they discovered Morrison with a gunshot wound. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department transported him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The initial investigation revealed that Morrison had been involved in an argument with another man at the bus stop, which escalated to the point of the other man shooting Morrison and then fleeing the scene on foot.

In the days following the shooting, the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division worked to identify the person responsible for Amond Morrison's death. Investigators released surveillance images to the public of a man they described as a person of interest who was wanted for questioning. The release of these images proved to be a crucial step in the investigation, as it led to the identification of a suspect. The man identified from the public's assistance was 38-year-old Kelvin Demon Lyons. On August 7, 2026, members of the HPD's Southwest Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team located and arrested Lyons. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Amond Morrison.

Following his arrest, Kelvin Demon Lyons was booked into the Harris County Jail. His case was assigned to the 185th Criminal District Court. While an arrest and charges have been made, the legal proceedings are still in their initial phases. Details about what led to the verbal dispute between Lyons and Morrison have not been publicly released by law enforcement. The case against Lyons will proceed through the justice system, with future court dates expected to be set for trial. As of now, there has been no conviction or sentencing in the case, as the matter is pending in the criminal court system. The overview of the case is that an argument at a public transit stop tragically escalated to deadly violence, leading to the death of Amond Morrison and the subsequent arrest of a suspect who now faces a murder charge.
