On a summer afternoon in Chicago, the life of 38-year-old Joshua Ashford was cut short in a violent encounter. The incident unfolded around noon on June 22, 2026, inside an auto shop located in the 2100 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in the South Lawndale neighborhood. A dispute between Ashford and another man, who was 49 years old, escalated into a physical fight. The altercation took a fatal turn when a firearm was introduced, and Ashford was shot in the chest.
