In the early morning hours of July 4, 2026, the town of Centreville, Mississippi, was shattered by an eruption of gunfire that claimed the life of 19-year-old Dekevion Keshawn Andrews. The violent incident unfolded around 12:55 a.m. near the Orchard Cafe on Highway 24, where a mass shooting left a total of nine people with gunshot wounds. In the chaos that ensued, the injured were rushed to Fields Health System hospital in private vehicles.
Tragically, Andrews and another young man, 22-year-old Donovan Jackson, succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Andrews, a student of Wilkinson County High School, was remembered by his family and friends for his warmth and thoughtfulness. His body, along with Jackson's, was transported to the state crime lab in Jackson for an autopsy.
The aftermath of the shooting cast a somber shadow over the community, prompting local officials to take immediate action. A curfew was imposed in Centreville, running from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., in an effort to ensure public safety as the investigation commenced. Adding to the town's turmoil, Centreville's Interim Police Chief, GeMarcus Patterson, resigned in the wake of the incident. The seven other victims of the shooting included three individuals who were transferred to a trauma center for further medical treatment and four others who were treated and released. Their names were Jerryon Roger, 20; Cameron Robinson, 18; Latelvin Henyard, 19; and four juveniles between the ages of 14 and 17.
