Ty-Ron Perry Jr., a 16-year-old boy, was killed in the early morning hours of May 27, 2026, after a shooting inside a home in the 900 block of East Dewey Avenue on Youngstown’s South Side. A suspect was arrested almost immediately after the shooting. Darius Smith, 22, was charged with murder in connection with Ty-Ron’s death. During Smith’s arraignment, Assistant City Prosecutor Shaina Rochford asked for a $1 million bond, noting that the victim was a minor. Smith’s attorney, Frank Cassese, requested a lower bond of $100,000 and argued that Smith had no prior felony arrest and was employed. Judge Renee DiSalvo set bond at $1 million, citing concern from a jail pretrial assessment that rated Smith as a high risk to be arrested again if released.
