Khalid Lisimba Lanier, 43, a male Stockton resident, died after a shooting on June 4, 2026, near the railroad tracks in Stockton, California. The fatal encounter unfolded in the 700 block of West Anderson Street, just north of Anderson Street and near Interstate 5, where Stockton police officers were sent at about 3:05 p.m. after a report of gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found Lanier wounded along the tracks.
Lanier had suffered a gunshot wound, described in reports as an upper-body injury. Emergency responders took him from the scene to a local hospital, but he did not survive. Authorities later confirmed that he was pronounced dead from his injuries. The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him publicly after the shooting, and his death was counted among Stockton’s 2026 homicides.
The location of the shooting added to concern in the area because it happened near railroad tracks and within an area connected in reporting to Stockton’s unhoused community. Days earlier, Christopher Butler had also been shot and killed near railroad tracks in Stockton, but police officials said the two homicides were not linked. A local homeless advocate also said the two deaths were unrelated, while still noting that the killings had created fear and unease among people living near the tracks.
Police said the motive in Lanier’s killing had not been determined. Homicide detectives took over the investigation, but authorities did not release a suspect description or identify any person believed to be responsible. As of the later Stockton homicide tracker update published after his death, the case still listed no suspect arrest.
No arrests, charges, trial proceedings, or convictions have been reported in connection with Lanier’s killing. Police continued asking anyone with information to contact the Stockton Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through Stockton Crime Stoppers.
