On April 6, 2024, 36-year-old Brady Lasalle Thornton was found deceased in his vehicle on East Jackson Street near South Wilson Way in Stockton, California. Responding to a welfare check around 3:15 p.m., officers discovered Thornton with a fatal gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thornton's death was one of three separate fatal shootings in Stockton that day. Earlier, at approximately 12:42 a.m., 21-year-old Boivae Martinez Jr.
was found dead from a gunshot wound inside a crashed vehicle on Wood Duck Circle at Quail Lakes Drive. Later, around 2:30 p.m., a shootout between multiple groups on Astor Drive resulted in the death of 18-year-old David Perez and injuries to others. Authorities stated that these incidents were not believed to be connected.
As of December 2024, there have been no public reports of arrests or identified suspects in connection with Brady Thornton's death. In contrast, arrests have been made in the cases of the other two shootings that occurred on the same day. In June 2024, three suspects—18-year-olds Jadari Benson and Rafael Galvan, and 19-year-old Sir James Roots—were arrested in connection with the death of Boivae Martinez Jr.
Thornton was remembered as a generous and loving individual who kept to himself and was never in any trouble. Born on February 13, 1988, in Oakland, California, he later moved to Stockton, where he lived with his grandmother and brother. He worked as a laborer in a warehouse and had an interest in trading stocks.
The Stockton Police Department continues to investigate Thornton's death and urges anyone with information to come forward. As of now, no suspects have been publicly identified, and the case remains unsolved.
