On May 5, 2026, 66-year-old Edward George Schleigh was found deceased in his Carrollton, Texas, apartment, the victim of a fatal shooting. His death was the culmination of a violent sequence of events that began earlier that day and was rooted in a financial dispute. Schleigh, who was born in South Korea and grew up in San Antonio, Texas, was known by loved ones as a hardworking and optimistic father and grandfather whose greatest joy was his family.
The tragic events of that day began
at the Gwangjang Korean Market in Carrollton's Koreatown. There, 69-year-old Seung Ho Han, the owner of a local sushi restaurant, opened fire on a group of people he was meeting with for what they believed was a business meeting. This initial shooting resulted in the death of one individual, Sung Rae Cho, and left three others wounded. Investigators say one of the survivors told officers that Han was the shooter. Following the incident at the market, police were dispatched around 11:13 a.m. to a second shooting at an apartment complex on Old Denton Road. There, they discovered Edward Schleigh, who had been shot to death inside his residence.
Investigators quickly linked the two shootings and identified Seung Ho Han as the primary suspect. He was located and arrested later that day in the parking lot of a nearby H-Mart after a short foot chase. During an interview with detectives, conducted with the assistance of a bilingual officer, Han confessed to shooting all five victims. He told police he was angry over financial disagreements connected to their business dealings. The dispute reportedly involved a failed $75,000 investment for a property in Georgia, with Han claiming he had given Schleigh $70,000. An affidavit states that Han entered Schleigh's apartment through an unlocked door and shot him twice, later telling detectives he was "tired of Schleigh taking his money."
The investigation took a significant turn with the arrest of Seung Ho Han's wife, 67-year-old Ae Son Han. Authorities allege she was present during both shootings and actively assisted in the murder of Edward Schleigh. Evidence from a dash camera in the couple's vehicle reportedly captured Seung Ho Han telling his wife to call Schleigh to determine his whereabouts just before they drove to his apartment. Cell phone data also placed her at both crime scenes. Ae Son Han was arrested in Minnesota with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Service and is facing a murder charge. She is awaiting extradition back to Texas. Seung Ho Han has been charged with two counts of capital murder and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and remains in custody while awaiting trial. The case against the couple is now proceeding through the legal system.
