On the morning of May 5, 2026, a business meeting at the Gwangjang Korean Market in Carrollton, Texas, turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 63-year-old Sung Rae Cho. Cho, along with three other individuals, Young Yoo, Olivia Kim, and Yo Sung Kim, had gathered for what they believed was a business meeting when 69-year-old Seung Ho Han arrived and opened fire. According to reports, Han was upset over a failed business investment and financial disputes.
During the chaos, Han allegedly collected the victims' cell phones after they threatened to call for help, and then began shooting. Sung Rae Cho was shot as he attempted to flee towards the exit and died at the scene. The other three victims sustained gunshot wounds but survived.
The violence did not end at the Korean market. After leaving the initial scene, Seung Ho Han drove to a nearby apartment complex where he confronted and killed a second victim, 66-year-old Edward George Schleigh. Han allegedly entered Schleigh's apartment through an unlocked door and shot him twice, later telling investigators he was tired of Schleigh taking his money. Following this second shooting, authorities were able to track Han to the parking lot of a nearby H-Mart, where he was arrested with live ammunition still in his pockets. During an interview with detectives, conducted with the assistance of a Korean-speaking officer, Han reportedly admitted to shooting all five victims.
The investigation into the tragic events of that day led to a second arrest. Seung Ho Han's wife, 67-year-old Ae Son Han, was also implicated in the crimes. One of the surviving victims told police that after being shot, she asked Ae Son Han for help, who then callously questioned why she wasn't dead before walking away. It is alleged that Ae Son Han was present at both homicide scenes and aided her husband in the second killing by calling to see if Schleigh was home. Following the shootings, the couple reportedly went to a McDonald's drive-thru. Ae Son Han later traveled to Minnesota, where she was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and is awaiting extradition to Texas to face a murder charge. Seung Ho Han has been charged with two counts of capital murder and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The case against the couple highlights a violent culmination of a business deal gone wrong, leaving a community in mourning and seeking justice for the lives lost.
