Marchillo Freeman, a 44-year-old man, died after a late-night confrontation inside a home in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood on March 30, 2026. The shooting happened around 9:40 to 9:42 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Washington Boulevard, where police said Freeman and a 31-year-old man became involved in an argument that quickly turned physical.
According to police accounts reported by local news outlets, the dispute escalated when Freeman allegedly pulled out a knife or
sharp object and attacked the younger man. The 31-year-old, described by police as a valid Firearm Owners Identification card holder, then pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots. Freeman was struck several times in the body and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The violence also claimed the life of 38-year-old Shanquella Pigram, who police said tried to intervene during the fight. As the gunfire erupted, Pigram was shot in the head and was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she later died. Her death turned what began as a fight between two men into a double-fatal shooting that left two people dead from the same confrontation inside the home.
Police recovered a firearm at the scene and took the 31-year-old shooter into custody. Early reports stated that charges were pending while Area Three detectives investigated the case. The suspect’s name was not released in the initial reports, and no later online source located provided a confirmed charging decision, trial outcome, or conviction.
