In the early hours of Friday, April 3, 2026, the life of 35-year-old Joshua Williams, a Black male, was cut short in a fatal shooting in northwest Austin. Austin Police Department officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 10900 block of Brazoria Lane, near The Cottages at Northwoods apartment complex, at approximately 12:42 a.m. The 911 call was made by Williams' girlfriend, who reported that he had been shot.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Williams with apparent
gunshot wounds. Despite the circumstances, he was pronounced deceased at the scene at 1:09 a.m. The Austin Police Department is investigating the case as the city's 18th homicide of 2026. Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were dispatched to the location to process the scene and gather evidence.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Investigators believe the person or persons responsible may have driven around the neighborhood after the incident. In an effort to gather more information, the police have appealed to the public for assistance. They are specifically asking residents in the vicinity to share any video footage they may have from between 11:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. on the night of the shooting. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Austin Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
