On April 10, 2026, Ashley Marie Hall, a 36-year-old female, was fatally shot in Des Moines, Iowa. The incident occurred just after 3 a.m. inside an apartment in the Prospect Park neighborhood on 30th Street. When officers and fire department personnel arrived, they discovered Ashley deceased at the scene.
Later that same day, Des Moines Police Department detectives arrested 46-year-old Sharneeka Evans in connection with the shooting.
According to authorities, evidence indicates that both women were guests in the apartment when Evans allegedly used a pistol to shoot Hall. Evans has been charged with first-degree murder.
The tragic death of Ashley, who had just celebrated her birthday on April 1st, has left her family and community in mourning. She was described as a bold, beautiful person with a bright smile and a contagious laugh who was full of life. A graduate of North High School in Des Moines, Ashley worked for the Laborers Union for Asbestos Removal. She is survived by her three daughters, her life partner, her parents, and numerous siblings and other relatives.
In the wake of the homicide, a political debate emerged concerning warrant resolution clinics in Iowa. It was reported that the suspect, Sharneeka Evans, had a previous arrest warrant for a parole violation set aside at a Polk County clinic just a week before the fatal shooting. This led to criticism of the program and a vote in the Iowa House to ban such clinics, a move lauded by Ashley's mother.
