A quiet Sunday afternoon in Valley View, Texas, turned tragic on April 12, 2026, ending the life of 43-year-old Brandon Kacey Acker. A disturbance call brought Cooke County Sheriff's deputies to the 1000 block of County Road 200 at approximately 3:31 p.m., where they discovered a scene of violence. An altercation between two men had escalated, resulting in Acker sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.
Emergency responders, including the Texas Department of Public Safety, Valley View
Police Department, Cooke County EMS, and the Valley View Volunteer Fire Department, were all dispatched to the location. Acker was found in very critical condition and was quickly transported by a CareFlight helicopter to a hospital in the Denton area. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Brandon Kacey Acker succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
At the scene of the shooting, deputies were able to quickly locate and apprehend a suspect without any further incident. The individual taken into custody was identified as 54-year-old Wilburn Ernest Ragon, also from Valley View. Initially, Ragon was booked into the Cooke County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Following Acker's death, the charges against Ragon were upgraded to murder. His bond was subsequently set at $500,000 as the investigation into the deadly altercation continued.
