In the early hours of April 14, 2026, a quiet street in the Fort Worth suburb of Benbrook was shattered by the sound of gunfire, leaving a man and a woman critically injured. The male victim was identified as 39-year-old Cliffton Wayne Jones. Police and emergency medical services were dispatched to a residence in the 4200 block of Plantation Drive around midnight following a report of shots fired.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered both Cliffton Wayne Jones and 46-year-old Lisa Speer Craig inside the home, each suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. They were both immediately transported to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth for urgent medical care. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, Jones succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 12:47 a.m. that same day.

Lisa Speer Craig was admitted to the hospital in serious condition and fought for her life for three days before she too passed away on Friday, April 17. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office later ruled her death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the neck. An autopsy for Cliffton Wayne Jones was pending to determine his official cause and manner of death.

As of late April 2026, Benbrook police had not released any information regarding a potential suspect or suspects in the double shooting. The motive for the attack and the nature of the relationship between Jones and Craig also remained undisclosed to the public. The investigation into the tragic deaths of Cliffton Wayne Jones and Lisa Speer Craig is ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
