In the evening hours of April 18, 2026, a dispute in a northwest Charlotte neighborhood escalated into a fatal shootout, claiming the life of 24-year-old Zaquez Samprese Blakley. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to calls of a shooting into an occupied home on Dundeen Street at approximately 8:45 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered that a gunfight had occurred between two individuals.
During the exchange of gunfire, a nearby residence was struck, but thankfully,
no one inside the home was injured. In the aftermath of the shootout, Blakley, who had sustained a gunshot wound, drove himself to a local hospital. Despite his efforts to seek medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the authorities have not publicly identified a suspect or suspects in the death of Zaquez Samprese Blakley. Detectives are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to an arrest in this ongoing investigation.
