Cameron Lamont Verdell-Manning, 25, was killed on April 21, 2026, in Detroit, Michigan, in a shooting that prosecutors say unfolded after a confrontation on the city’s west side. According to the allegations, the violence began at about 7:55 p.m. in the 18400 block of Lahser, where Cameron and Darrieon Latimer became involved in an argument. What started as a dispute quickly turned deadly.
Authorities say that at some point during the encounter, Cameron turned away from Latimer. It was then, investigators allege, that Latimer produced an assault rifle from a vehicle and opened fire, striking Cameron and fatally injuring him. The shooting did not end there. Prosecutors further allege that Latimer then fired additional shots at an apartment where another person was standing. That person was not hit, but the gunfire added another layer of danger and fear to an already deadly scene.
After officers were called to the area, police canvassed the neighborhood in an effort to track down the shooter. During that search, officers located Latimer and took him into custody. His arrest came soon after the shooting, giving investigators a suspect as they began piecing together the events that led to Cameron’s death.
Latimer has been charged with Homicide-Murder First Degree-Premeditated, Assault with Intent to Murder, Weapons-Firearms-Discharge In or At a Building, and three counts of Weapons-Felony Firearm. The case now moves forward through the court system as prosecutors pursue those charges in connection with Cameron Lamont Verdell-Manning’s death and the shots allegedly fired at the nearby apartment. As the proceedings continue, Latimer is presumed innocent pending further proceedings.
