Kevin Smith, aged 31, was killed on April 2, 2016, in Detroit, Michigan. His homicide was part of a larger wave of violence that continues to trouble the city. Since 1980, Detroit has seen more than 8,000 murders, with roughly two-thirds of these cases remaining unsolved as of 2021.
