In the early hours of April 27, 2026, a gathering of car enthusiasts in a Columbia, Maryland parking garage turned deadly, leaving one young man dead and several others wounded. Leo Noel Balladares-Arita, a 24-year-old male from Falls Church, Virginia, was fatally shot at the scene of what police have described as an illegal car rally. The incident unfolded around 5:27 a.m. in a parking structure located in the 6700 block of Alexander Bell Drive.
When Howard County Police responded to reports of a shooting, they discovered Balladares-Arita deceased from gunshot wounds.
The violence of that morning was not limited to a single victim. A total of six other individuals, all from Virginia, also sustained injuries. Among the wounded were three 20-year-old men, an 18-year-old male, a 19-year-old female, and a 16-year-old female. One woman was transported from the scene with non-life-threatening injuries, while the others later arrived at area hospitals seeking treatment for their wounds. Investigators believe that many of the participants at the unsanctioned event were known to each other and had traveled from out of state.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with authorities suggesting there were multiple shooters involved in the incident. Law enforcement has noted that no guns were recovered at the scene. In an effort to gather more information, the Howard County Police Department is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for any tips that lead to a break in the case. As of now, no arrests have been made and no specific suspects have been publicly identified. Police are urging anyone with information to contact them, and they have assured that tipsters can remain anonymous.
