Gunfire erupted around 12:40 p.m. in the 8600 block of Chase Street, drawing a swift response from local police. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Lewis suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite any efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later officially identified the victim as Torrey
Lewis. The New Orleans Police Department has since launched a homicide investigation into the shooting.
