In the East Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago, a late-night dispute on March 30, 2026, ended in the tragic death of 38-year-old Shanquella Pigram. The incident, which also resulted in the death of 44-year-old Machillo Freeman, unfolded inside a residence, stemming from a heated argument.
The confrontation reportedly began between Freeman and another man, who was 31 years old at the time. As the altercation escalated, Freeman is said to have attacked the other man with a sharp object.
In response, the 31-year-old, who legally possessed a Firearm Owner's Identification card, drew a gun and opened fire.
Shanquella Pigram, who was present during the altercation, was shot and killed as she attempted to intervene. Freeman was also fatally wounded during the incident. Following the shooting, police arrived at the scene and took the 31-year-old gunman into custody. At the time of the initial reports, charges against him were pending. The investigation into the double homicide is ongoing.
