Kobayashi Wylie-Hill, a 36-year-old woman from Chicago, IL, was tragically killed on September 6, 2020. The incident occurred in the Englewood neighborhood, specifically in an apartment located in the 6100 block of South Carpenter Street. Kobayashi Wylie-Hill was shot multiple times in the head and body, and she was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
An autopsy confirmed that her death was a homicide.
The investigation revealed that Jerry Yarbor, a 49-year-old man, was responsible for the murder. Yarbor had a personal vendetta against Wylie-Hill, blaming her for the death of his relative who had died of a drug overdose. On the day of the incident, Yarbor confronted Wylie-Hill in the apartment's bathroom, accusing her of being involved in his relative's death. Despite Wylie-Hill's pleas of innocence, Yarbor opened fire, killing her. Witnesses at the scene identified Yarbor, who was known by the nickname "Redroom," and provided crucial information to the police, including his distinctive tattoo and his vehicle's license plate number.
Following the incident, Yarbor was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. During the investigation, Yarbor denied any involvement in the murder but admitted to knowing Wylie-Hill and expressed disdain for her. His defense attorney argued that other family members could have had similar motives for the crime, but the evidence, including witness testimonies and video surveillance, pointed to Yarbor as the perpetrator. Yarbor was held without bail and is awaiting trial for the murder of Kobayashi Wylie-Hill.
