On the evening of Monday, March 30, 2026, chaos erupted in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood of West Philadelphia, forever altering the lives of many. Naasir Boyd, a 24-year-old man, was caught in a hail of bullets that ultimately claimed his life. The gunfire began around 8:40 p.m. on the 300 block of South 60th Street, a bustling area with bodegas and take-out restaurants.
A masked individual inside a white vehicle opened fire on a crowd that had gathered, unleashing a senseless act of violence.
Boyd was struck in the chest during the mass shooting and was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Another young man, 24-year-old Paul “PJ” Cobb, who was a childhood friend of Boyd's, also lost his life in the incident after being shot in the chest. Three other men, aged 35, 36, and 54, were also wounded in the attack. The 36-year-old was left in critical condition after being shot in the stomach, while the other two men were in stable condition with leg wounds.
In the immediate aftermath, the Philadelphia Police Department descended upon the scene, where at least 15 spent cartridge casings littered the street. Investigators began canvassing the area for surveillance footage and any information that could lead to the person or persons responsible. Despite their efforts, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and a motive for the tragic event remains unconfirmed by authorities.
