On the afternoon of April 4, 2026, a series of urgent 911 calls shattered the weekend quiet on the west side of Indianapolis. Residents reported the sound of gunshots ringing out in the vicinity of the 800 block of South Lynhurst Drive and the 800 block of Manhattan Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. As officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived to investigate the reports of gunfire, another call came in, this time with more specific and grim information: a person had been shot in a nearby alleyway.
Officers located the victim, who was later identified as 30-year-old Tyrane Del Ray McCoy. He was found in an alley, suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel quickly transported him to a local hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, Tyrane Del Ray McCoy was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police canvassed the area, searching for evidence and speaking with potential witnesses. They urged anyone who may have seen suspicious individuals or vehicles leaving the area to come forward with information. However, authorities did not release any information about a possible motive for the shooting or a description of any suspect or suspects.
