In a quiet neighborhood in the Austin's Colony area, a domestic disturbance on a late Tuesday morning tragically escalated, ending the life of 63-year-old Hispanic female, Cynthia Rios Juarez of Round Rock. The Travis County Sheriff's Office received a distressing 911 call just before 11:30 a.m. on March 3, 2026, from a woman reporting a shooting at a residence in the 4500 block of Secure Lane.
Upon their arrival, deputies were met with a grim scene.
Cynthia Rios Juarez was found with a severe gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, including CPR, her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene at 12:01 p.m. Another individual, later identified as her brother, 49-year-old Courtney Leander Nation of Austin, was also present and had sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The initial investigation by the Travis County Sheriff's Office painted a harrowing picture of the events that transpired. It is believed that during a family dispute, Courtney Leander Nation shot his sister. In a turn of events, Nation was then shot by his other brother, who was also at the residence. Nation was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Following the incident, Courtney Leander Nation was charged with the murder of his sister, Cynthia Rios Juarez. Authorities have indicated that the brother who shot Nation is not currently facing any charges, as the investigation into the motive and the precise sequence of events continues. Detectives are in the process of interviewing family members who were present at the time of the shooting to piece together the moments that led to this tragic outcome.
