In the evening hours of Wednesday, March 4, 2026, a dispute that began inside a Northeast Philadelphia convenience store tragically escalated, claiming the life of 35-year-old Vaswani Brown. The argument, the specifics of which remain unclear, spilled out into the street, culminating in a fatal shooting that was captured on surveillance video.
Just after 7 p.m., police responded to the 6600 block of Summerdale Avenue, near Magee Avenue, where they found Brown lying in the street next to
a running SUV. He had sustained at least one gunshot wound to the back. Brown, who lived only a few blocks from the scene of the shooting, was rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after 7:45 p.m.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect. According to police, after the initial argument, Brown was seated in his parked SUV when the alleged shooter approached the passenger side window and fired three shots. The gunman then fled the scene on foot, heading south on Summerdale Avenue. Investigators recovered three spent shell casings at the scene, as well as a semiautomatic handgun believed to have belonged to Brown from the driver's side of his vehicle.
Philadelphia Police have since issued a murder warrant for Michael White, a 23-year-old man, in connection with Brown's death. Authorities have described White as a Black male, approximately 5'11" and 250 pounds, with a last known address on the 1300 block of Wells Street. A $20,000 reward has been offered for information leading to his arrest and conviction. White is considered armed and dangerous, and the motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
