In a tragic turn of events on the evening of March 9, 2026, a dispute over housing led to the death of Travon Jackson, a 30-year-old man in Brandon, Florida. The incident unfolded at the Lakewood Place apartment complex located on Lake Chapman Drive. Jackson was subletting an apartment from a married couple, James Sidney Llanos, 47, and Lizeina Marie Cepeda, 39.
The couple had reportedly gone to the apartment with the intention of evicting Jackson.
An altercation broke out between the three individuals, which ultimately escalated to deadly violence. During the confrontation, James Llanos is said to have fatally shot Travon Jackson. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received a call about a disturbance at the residence shortly before 5:45 p.m. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered Jackson inside the apartment with a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the aftermath of the shooting, both James Llanos and Lizeina Cepeda were taken into custody by law enforcement. Llanos was charged with first-degree murder while engaged in a burglary, as well as armed burglary of a dwelling with assault or battery. Cepeda is also facing serious charges, including first-degree murder while engaged in a burglary and burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault or battery. Sheriff Chad Chronister of Hillsborough County commented on the case, calling it a "senseless act of violence."
