Darien Lamont Henry, 25, a Black man from Brandon, Florida, was shot after an argument in the breezeway of the Cypress Trace apartments on the 700 block of Providence Trace Circle around 7:05 p.m. on June 1, 2025. During the confrontation, he was hit in the upper body and rushed to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies identified the suspected gunman as 32-year-old Delfeayo McCoy and said he fled after the shooting.
Within hours, detectives found him at a residence in the 4900 block of 80th Street South in Tampa and took him into custody. Authorities reported that McCoy was charged with second-degree murder; records and local reporting also note a charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
Investigators described the deadly encounter as beginning with a verbal dispute that escalated in the apartment breezeway. Reporting based on an arrest affidavit added that the argument involved money and marijuana and that the exchange moved from a doorway to banging on the door before the gunfire. The sheriff’s office later released body-camera footage of the arrest, and officials emphasized that while the swift arrest brought accountability, it could not undo the loss of Darien Lamont Henry, 25.
